Hi there! Nice to Meet You! I’m Kristin, just a mom who loves the process of preparing for Professional Family Photoshoots. I started this blog because I needed something just like it when planning for our most recent family photoshoot in the Spring of 2021.
Planning a Family Photoshoot
During the planning stage I searched Instagram, Pinterest, Blogs, and Online Shops for real examples of outfits in photoshoots. Learned a little bit about color theory and editing along the way. Spoke with other photographers for their recommendations. The whole time wishing for an easier way. I wanted a website that had real pictures of family photoshoots along with all the links I needed in one place. I was trying to achieve a specific result. But, my search was coming up empty.
I was running out of time and still didn’t have everything we needed. I frantically searched for hours and hours each night (after everyone was asleep) for the perfect dress to wear, the perfect dress for my daughter to wear, the perfect outfits to get for my sons and husband…all that coordinated but didn’t match…all in the right color scheme for the place we were taking our pictures.
And why do all this?
Because family pictures are important. Family photos are an investment. A part of the legacy I leave my kids with when I am gone. My children will have these pictures to show their kids. Time flies and I love looking back at our pictures over the years, documenting our lives from our wedding to becoming a family of 5. I’ve just more recently taken the outfits we wear to the photoshoot a little more seriously.
So, why do the clothes matter anyways?
The clothes you wear to your photoshoot can have dramatic effects on the outcome …your photos. Different colors make people feel different feelings. Yellow for Happy. Red for Love. Orange for Bravery. Purple for Royalty. And so on. (Click Here if you’d like to learn a little more about color theory in photography) If you are looking for a light and airy collection of photos it’s best to stick to certain colors to achieve those results. The same goes for a more Moody Film-Like Vibe, or maybe a Bright Cheerful look. The photographer will define the look of your photos during editing, but the outfits you choose should match their style. That’s one important reason it is imperative to thoroughly research the photographer you choose (more on that later).
My Goals for Family Stylin…
- I want to create a resource for people planning their professional photoshoot
- I want to provide real examples of clothing, makeup and hair styles used in those Photoshoots with the corresponding links to the products or processes
- I’m hoping that it will save you time to have access to this info
- I am also hoping that it makes your end result of pictures even more beautiful!

The Process of Planning Family Photoshoots is no joke!
The adorable and oh so cute Dolly Parton once said, “Pretty is a process!”, and I agree. I’ve planned for our various Family Photoshoots differently and I think I’ve learned a thing or two along the way. The end results have improved over time and I am still wanting to learn more and share what I learn. It will be great getting to know you and I hope you find the resources helpful!
